本教材根据教育部高等教育司颁布的《大学英语教学指南（2020版）》关于跨文化教学的目标要求编写，即大学英语教学在重视荚美及其他外国文化输入的同时，也要适当融入中国文化的教学内容。本教材选择了贴近日常生活的饮食、语言文字、运动、戏剧、电影和建筑六个单元作为精读内容，附以中西文化相关的经典篇章作为泛读。每个单元包括五个模块：Lead-in Activities（单元主题的视听、讨论和课前阅读）；Text A及练习（Text A涉及中国文化，课后习题包括问答、选词填空和翻译，主要用于课内文化知识点、词汇、表达的巩固）；Text B及练习（Text B涉及西方或世界文化，课后练习可用于阅读训练和文章主要信息整理、总结）；Theme-related Exercises（单元主题的补充练习，包括阅读理解、段落翻译和相关主题的课后阅读）；More Expressions to Know（单元主题的词汇和表达拓展）。
本教材适合高等院校一、二年级的各专业学生学习使用。
