中国经济的快速发展促使中文与中华文化走向世界。在这一形势的影响下，国际中文教师专业素养的提高也迫在眉睫。本书用英语介绍现代汉语与汉语国际传播相关知识，将专业知识传授和英语能力提升相融合。全书主体部分有五章，包括汉语语音、汉字、词汇、语法和汉语传播。前四章既有汉语本体知识的介绍，也有该领域二语习得前沿研究的引介。
语音部分包括声母、韵母、声调、汉语语音习得研究。汉字部分包括汉字起源和历史发展、汉字特征、汉字习得等内容。词汇部分包括古汉语词汇特征、汉语构词法、熟语、汉语词汇习得研究。语法部分包括词性、句法成分、语义角色、句子、汉语语法习得研究。汉语传播部分主要介绍国际中文教育在国内和国外的历史发展与现状。

余烁，女，中央民族大学国际教育学院讲师，硕士生导师。2010年获英国伦敦大学学院语言学硕士学位，2019年获英国兰卡斯特大学语言学博士学位。曾应邀赴美国、法国、意大利、巴西、英国等大学和研究机构参加国际会议并发言，主要研究兴趣包括认知语言学、构式语法、语料库研究、二语习得等。
