本书根据近几年国内外金融市场中的最新变化，在总结过去教材建设经验的基础上，结合应用型本科教育的特点，在金融学专业的课程体系、课程内容、教学方法、教材编写等方面再次进行了进一步的探索和创新。
第二版教材在第一版基础上对所有内容进行了清晰的主题分类和内容的更新，更有利于教师的教学和学生的学习。本书共十五个单元，每单元都包括听力、阅读和习题三部分内容。十五个单元被划分为五部分，每部分各有主题并包含与主题相关的三个单元内容：第一部分为著名经济学家及其生平简介；第二部分为对金融行业中的职业进行的划分和介绍；第三部分为生活中的金融活动；第四部分为全球金融市场发展现状；第五部分为我国的金融市场发展情况。
其中，听力部分所选材料种类繁多，本着应用型本科教育的选材原则，本教材既挑选了世界银行的年报，也有权威媒体发布的金融市场报告，还有关于经济全球化的书评，阅读部分的材料也大多选自近年来的金融新闻或是刊物，更贴近实际的金融市场环境，旨在帮助学生更快速地了解和适应当下各类金融场景下的金融活动。
