苏州博物馆西馆是苏州博物馆设立的分馆，将于2021年9月下旬建成开放。为配合苏州博物馆西馆开馆，苏州博物馆拟出版2本图录（通史陈列、苏作工艺陈列）。本书为苏州博物馆西馆苏作工艺陈列图录，收入展品均为苏州博物馆馆藏苏作工艺精品，共一百多件，时代以明、清及近现代为主，少量涉及宋元时期，工艺门类丰富多样，包括玉雕、木雕、核雕、砚雕、砖雕、牙角雕、竹刻、泥塑、缂丝、苏绣、折扇、团扇、檀香扇、鸟笼及铜器、金银器、家具等，极为精致巧妙，是苏作工艺最高水平的代表。作者不简单以质地将这些手工艺作品分类，而是按照苏州传统文人赏玩日用的用途，将这些器物分为雕玲珑、琢绮丽、绣华彩三大部分，体现了作者的别出心裁，也使整本图录更具苏州文化气息，凸显了其地域特色。
