"本书系统介绍科技英语的语言特点及科技文献的阅读技巧和方法。本书共12单元，每单元由3部分组成。部分“讲座”，主要讲解科技文献的阅读技巧和方法，并精选了内容丰富、形式多样的练习，巩固学生已学的知识。第二部分“课文”，课文内容突出科技史特色，介绍人类发展进程中各个时期的科学和技术的发展。第三部分 “拓展阅读”，是对课文内容的拓展，目的是给学生提供更多的翻译实践机会，同时，通过大量阅读增加词汇量，开阔视野。书后附有每单元的练习答案，便于学生核对和自主学习。所附课文译文，仅供对照参考。

谢小苑，南京航空航天大学外国语学院副教授,主要研究方向为英语教育、英语课程与教学论和翻译(笔译)。主要从事大学英语教学和研究，主持省部级项目5项，发表论文10余篇，出版专著1部、教材5部、教辅4本。
