全球化背景下，向世界讲好中国故事，且正确讲述中国故事，推动中国文化走出去，让世界了解中国，已成为当代中国的国家战略。中国古典文学英译是这一战略的重要组成部分。中国古典诗词英译，可以帮助外国读者进一步了解中国文学悠久的传统和辉煌成就，从而对中国文化有更全面、更深刻的了解和认识，继而实现文明互鉴和民心相通。
本书选译了一百首中国历代经典诗、词、小令及铭文，它们大多是中国人耳熟能详、出口可诵的篇章。其中三件作品(刘禹锡的《陋室铭》、杨慎的《临江仙．滚滚长江东逝水》、罗庸的《西南联大校歌》)的入选使本书成为别具特色的汉诗英译选集。在充分研究、考证的基础上，译者力求“知诗真意，传其真意；知诗神韵，传其神韵”，并用英文把中国经典诗词的意象、意境和神韵之美等表达出来。译者爱诗、写诗，以诗人之心译诗，其译诗自得原诗之妙！
