《中国》2017版在过去的基础上进行较大幅度的改动，基本思路是：1、反映基本情况、基本信息。使该书在今后的年度出版图书中形成鲜明的内容特色。2、避免呆板、生硬。在内容的撷取（包括文字、图片与图表）、编写方式，以及编排设计上，寻求创新，以利于该书达到简明、易读、好用的效果。3、具体措施上注重避免使用过多的动态经济数据，请各领域的专家着重进行中国基本情况的介绍，着重反映相对稳定的文化形态、经济状态、体制情况等；另一方面，内容同时要新鲜有效。
