“21世纪实用英语系列教材”根据《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求》以及我国高等职业教育“十二五”规划和建设现代职业教育体系的要求，结合我国高等职业教育人才培养特点和教学改革的最新成果编写而成，突出教学内容的实用性和针对性，将语言基础能力的培养与实际涉外交际能力的训练有机地结合起来，以满足新时代全球化社会经济发展对高职高专人才的要求。
本系列教材包括《综合教程》、《综合练习》、《教学参考书》（含基础级和1—4册），以及《视听说教程》（1—4册）、《视听说教程教学参考书》（1—4册）、《语法教程》、《翻译教程》、《写作教程》等，并配有MP3光盘、音带、多媒体课件、电子教案、网络课程等。本套教材供高职高专院校普通英语教学使用。
梁正溜、江晓东、窦争妍主编的《21世纪实用英语综合教程(4十二五职业教育国家规划教材)》为《综合教程》第4册，共8个单元，每个单元均包括听说、读写和实用技能训练三大板块的内容。听说部分围绕每单元的主题，并结合高职高专学生学习生活和毕业后工作实际需要，进行听力与口语方面的专门训练。读写板块包括TextA（精读），TextB（泛读）和Practical Reading（实用阅读），并配有相应的练习。实用技能训练部分根据高职高专教育的特点，提供以提高职业技能和素质为目标的实用训练，包括Grammar Review，Practical Writing和Basic Reading Skills等内容。
