《巴金文集》是巴金第一个大型、多卷本选集。巴金对本文集的态度十分慎重，在文集的编选过程中，他做了最为集中和最大规模的一次作品修改，文集的作品呈现了当今巴金作品“定本”的基本面目。本文集过滤掉很多不适合新时代的信息，做了语言文字上的规范，甚至增加章节、修补人物形象。因此，这套文集在考察巴金著作修改和演变过程中有着非常独特的版本价值。本书是该套文集的第4卷，是英文版，收录作品44篇：《最早的记忆》、《我的家庭环境》、《我的童年》等。
