姜礼福编著的《动物与帝国主义--英语文学中的后殖民动物研究》运用后殖民批评理论考察当代五位前殖民地作家笔下动物意象所传递出的殖民/反殖民、生态/反生态讯息,将对种族他者和自然他者的压迫结合起来研究。具体运用“话语分析”、对比等研究方法,考察动物和帝国主义之间的体系性联系,并分别以帝国主义的暴力征服、文化控制和生态压榨三个层面作为切入点,通过透视动物意象以及动物与人的关系映射出的帝国心态和权力话语,探究英美作家的反殖民意识和小说叙述呈现出的对帝国主义话语的多样性反抗,挖掘动物意象的多元文化内涵。
