《现代大学英语》共有四册，是英语专业系列教材中的一个系列，与精读教材配合使用。本书为四册中的第三册，可供大学英语专业二年级和具备相当水平的英语自学者使用。

陈亚平主编的《现代大学英语（3阅读第2版）》所选的文章无论从题材、体裁的多样性，还是文章的趣味性、可读性方面都称得上是精品。本册书中每篇文章都配有适当的注释，特别是对一些阅读欣赏的微妙之处加以点睛阐释，相信读者一定会有所收获。
