《通典》包括文典卷、词典卷、缩略语卷。文典卷分函电、合同协议、单证三部分，包括国际商务的各种信函、合同、协议及其他单证文件等；词典卷选收了国际贸易（国际商品贸易、国际服务贸易及与国际贸易有关的知识产权等）各方面的单词和词组；缩略语卷则收录了国际商务领域常用的缩略语。
