林语堂的作品如同他的一生,孜孜地向世界解说中国,向祖国表达赤忱。
作为用英语创作的一位中国作家,他向西方介绍中国文化的系列作品影响深远,被视作阐述东方思想的重要著述。
此次结集的“林语堂英文作品集”,除保留外研社曾出版的《吾国与吾民》、《生活的艺术》、《浮生六记》和《京华烟云》等代表作品外,还收录了《风声鹤唳》、《老子的智慧》和《武则天传》等十余部颇具影响的原版著作。
如此规模的林语堂英文作品在国内出版尚属首次,包括其中几种是首次以英文原貌在国内面世,极富收藏价值。此外,为了更好地介绍和呈现林语堂及其作品,还从台北林语堂故居和漳州林语堂纪念馆等地采集珍贵图片,如林语堂生平不同时期的独照、与亲友的合影、部分手稿和初版封面的存照等,以飨读者。
