KARI, BRIULLOV (1799-1852) is one of the greatest figures of Russian painting in the half of the 19th century. Although originally a purely classical artist, he is known above all for his romantic paintings.Briullov became famous for his immense intellectual and artistic qualities, and his independant nature.His dynamic and creative art inspired passionate enthusiasm throughout the whole of Russia.

Briullov was also highly successful in western Europe, where his admirers included Thorvaldsen, Sir Walter Scott,Stendhal and Liszt.
