This book accompanies a retrospective exhibition of Judith Rothschild’s work, which for the first time includes paintings from the beginning to the end of her career. Although she had two partial retrospectives during her lifetime, they included paintings only from the latter part of her career, after 1970. Since this book is thus the first comprehensive study of her career, it is both biographical and art historical, meant to familiarize the reader not only with her art but also with the relationships between her work and the circumstances of her life.
