药学学科面很广，专业英语词汇涉及化学、临床医学、解剖学、药理学、医学遗传学、组织胚胎学、生理学、病理学、生物学、微生物学、药剂学、药物化学等，真可谓面广量大，学科的交叉与广泛的渗透又迫使医药院校的学生及医药卫生工作者必须突破自己的专业，能真正以英语为工具，顺利阅读并正确理解有关专业的书籍和文章，获取专业信息，因此本书特别强调药学类各专业同学有必要在全面掌握医药相关专业词汇的基础上扩大阅读面，而不是只强调专业阅读。这种教学思路在中国药科大学广泛使用，取得了较好效果。
