But the conflict raises troubling questions for the Man of Steel about authority, justice, power...and the price of liberty in a world where the enemies of freedom stand on the brink of victory.
Lois Lane stood just outside the shadow of the big golden globe. After days of rain, the sky was finally clearing and the newspaper's star reporter had ascended to the rooftop. She often came up here with her husband. It was one of their favorite "secret places."
But despite the clearing skies, there was an unpleasantness this afternoon. The very air felt heavy, oppressive.
It had been days since she'd last seen Clark--or even heard from him---and now she paced nervously around the globe. What were you expecting, a note in a bottle? Maybe a message written across the sky?
Lois looked up at the thought--and glimpsed what appeared to be a shooting star streak down from the heavens.
It quickly burned out.
The weird timing made her jump, and Lois felt a sudden, almost painful shiver of foreboding. She closed her eyes tight and made a wish. "Come home,Clark. Come home safe."
