全国高等学校教材英文版《外科学》是我国第一本由卫生部规划的全英语外科学教材。全书共56章，包括外科学基础、普通外科、麻醉、神经外科、胸心外科、泌尿外科和骨科等章节。

本书主要以美国《Sabiston Textbook of Surgery》第17版原著为蓝本，结合由人民卫生出版社出版的全国高等学校教材《外科学》第6版的内容进行改编，既保证了原著的精髓及写作风格，又按照我国医学高等教育“外科学教学大纲”的要求进行了删减和补充。各章节的排列顺序按《外科学》第6版的章节顺序进行了调整，有利于医学生结合《外科学》第6版进行学习。本教材内容是五年制教材《外科学》第6版的补充和拓展，具有内容新颖、全面，英语应用规范，图文并茂等特点，是一部加强医学生对外科学的学习和理解、培养学习外科学的兴趣、开阔视野、提高医学英文水平的教材。
