由北京邮电大学主办，英国工程技术学会（IET）、中国通信学会和北京市科协协办的“宽带网络与多媒体国际会议2007”于2007年9月19日-20日在北京邮电大学科技大厦隆重举行。来自中国、日本、韩国、英国和意大利等多个国家的代表，以及北京邮电大学林金桐校长、陈俊亮院士、杨放春副校长、杨义先教授、马严教授、马华东教授和IEEE北邮学生分会的学生代表将共同出席会议开幕式。学者就Broadband Network（宽带网络），Multimedia（多媒体），Security（安全），Intelligent System（智能系统），Optical Network and System（光网络和系统）等领域，围绕自己取得的研究成果，进行相关报告。在报告过程中学者们还将就共同关心的问题进行深入讨论。本书在此基础上集结出版。
