The organization of "Murakami" has been profoundly inspiring. Even after thirty years of organizing exhibitions,I have been and continue to be surprised by an artist of such expansive vision, unrelenting ambition, and boundless generosity. Maybe because he runs multiple studios with over one hundred employees--or maybe in spite of it--Takashi Murakami has demonstrated tremendous empathy to the challenges presented by this exhibition and has lent his support to all facets of its organization. The staff of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), developed the exhibition plan, catalogue, and installation in consultation with Murakami and members of his studio staff who, in turn, met each proposal with thoughtfulness, respect, and a demand for clarity and specificity that brought out the best in all of us.
