Yunkers's ability to see the ‘mirror’ inside himself is what, in fact, enabled him to remain innovative and to be true to himself throughout his life——from the time he decided to become an artist at the age of fourteen. It allowed him to live through and be involved in numerous political,intellectual, and artistic movements and yet have them serve only as backdrops to his unique life and career. Yunkers's one constant was his commitment to his own creative character, which compelled him, when he was making his works, to reach again into the depths of silence inside and~nd the seeds for a new ‘garden,’ ready to grow.
