MAMA (Media and Moving Art) started out as an exhibition space for young artists back in 1997. Over the years it has grown to become a prominent and influential platform for a broad public to experience an uncompromising and kaleidoscopic vision on contemporary culture. Known for its expertise regarding youth culture and the contemporary visual arts. MSLM is the end result of a year long collaboration between five young Muslim women and editor-in-chief and curator Natasa Heydra, commissioned by MAMA. In our Western society as we know it to be in Rotterdam, where fashion-wise great variety is expressed in the streets, we missed a Muslim glossy. The overall representation of this group of women does not surpass clich6s about seclusion and restrictions and it desperately needed an opposing voice to shed its light on freedom and renewal.
