This is the first book to be published devoted exclusively to porcelain dogs produced in this country during the 19th century. It considers the individual breeds represented in the medium - from greyhounds to dachshunds -and discusses at length the history and output of the porcelain factories producing these collectible figures, together with remarks on significant features relating to medium and decoration, and factory-by-factory details of all recorded models.

Most of the major porcelain manufactories of the period included dogs in their output, but the author also looks at models coming from unidentified factories of which little is known except that they were located somewhere in Staffordshire. Information of this nature is invaluable in helping to further the identity of hitherto unknown sources and will be welcomed by collectors, dealers and researchers alike.
The range and diversity of the dogs illustrated in this book, over 200 in full colour, not only give the reader a unique insight into the charming way in which the real dogs of the 19th century were represented in English porcelain, but also show just how rich is this neglected field of ceramics.
