The Neue Pinakothek is one of the several important museums which constitute the Bayerische Staatsgemaldesammlungen, or Bavarian State Collections. Its holdings amount to about 5,ooo works of art, dating from the mid-eighteenth century to the early twentieth, with the emphasis on paintings and sculpture of the nineteenth century. About 55o works are on display.
