In case there were any doubters (no, we didn’t think so), with Angel, Joss Whedon has proven that he’s no one-hit wonder. It wasn~t good enough for him to turn a show with the unlikely title of Buffy the Vampire Slayer into one of the best, most critically acclaimed, most beloved programs on television. He bad to do it all over again, with Angel. Simpler name, equally unlikely premise. An evil vampire gets his soul back, gains a conscience, and tries to atone for his sins by moving to Los Angeles and working as a private investigator.

The beauty of both Buffyand Angelis this: when you convince a friend who hasn’t watched to tune one in--after the expected concerns because of the title and/or premise--and he or she turns to you afterward, that stunned expression on his or her face, and says, "But it’s so good."
