The Austrian artist Christian Ludwig, who was born in Bratislava in 1940, spent part of his childhood in Attersee and subsequently incorporated the Austrian lake's name into his pseudonym. Having attracted attention with sarcastic and bizarre images of the world of consumer goods during the sixties, he was one of the promo-ters of the return to painting at documenta 6 in 1977 and repre-sented his country at the Venice Biennale in 1984. Attersee, who received the Great Austrian State Award for Art in 1997, has also made himself a name beyond painting in the areas of sailing, design, music, literature, stage design, and film.
