It is difficult to become detached from one's own work and write about it in a way that is not trivial. The intent of this preface is to outline some of the philosophical ideas that are of interest to us as a firm and to convey the joy and challenge of our day-to-day work.
Ralph Roesling, FAIA, grew up in Southern California in the community of Newport Beach. Subsequently, his family moved to Arizona where he attended Arizona State University,School of Architecture (BARCH 1976).Ralph Roesling has been teaching architecture since 1983 at the New School of Architecture in San Diego. He also served as Professor and Department Chair of Design for two years. He has lectured in the U.S., Italy and Japan. Together with Kotaro Nakamura, Ralph Roesling founded RNP in 1983.
Kotaro Nakamura, AIA, was born in Shimane, Japan. His youth was emmersed in the traditions of the countryside of Japan. Kotaro studied Environmental Engineering at Kanto Gakuin University in Yokohama (BSE 1977). Later, he attended San Diego State University (MA 1980) where he shifted his emphasis to Environmental design and Art. Professor Nakamura has been teaching Environmental Design at San Diego State since 1980. He has lectured in the U.S. and Japan.
Chikako Terada Hart, architect, was born in Tokyo, Japan. She studied architecture at Tama Art University (BARCH 1979).Following Japanese tradition, she was an apprentice with Professor Minoru Takeyama"s studio in Tokyo. After working several years at Takeyama"s office, she decided to go to the United States where she studied Environmental Design at San Diego State University (MA 1983). She came to RNP in 1983 and became a partner of the firm in 1996. She has been published in Japan and has lectured on architecture.
Mun Ying Kung, AIA, grew up in compact and urban Hong Kong. In order to further her education she travelled to the United States and attended Arizona State University School of Architecture (BARCH 1975). She has practiced as both an architect and a structural designer. She has been a principal and partner of RNP since 1993.
