Over the past few years the philosophy of showroom and art gallery design has been gradually converging in terms of solutions, materials, and composition: the common objective of installation design is to display for show, or display to sell. Be they works of art or clothes, sculpture or shoes, paintings or specific products, the objects on show are foregrounded by the display space - entrance lobbies, corridors, special temporary exhibition areas, converted lofts, warehouses, or former garages. This is the subject for the fifth book in the series "International Architecture & Interiors," a special series which, after spotlighting various aspects of contemporary architecture in the United States - from apartments to the fascinating single-family house, from restaurants to offices - now proposes a companion study focused on the complex typological category of showrooms and art galleries, so as to widen our overview of interior design and architecture in the United States.
