The Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, also known as L. M. Montgomery, was born in 1874. She wrote poems and stories as a child and attended university for a year, becoming a teacher while still in her teens. In 1911, she married the Reverend Ewan MacDonald, and the couple settled in Toronto.
