本教材力求体现“专业与产业、职业岗位对接，专业课程内容与职业标准对接，教学过程与生产过程对接，职业教育与终身学习对接”的职业教育教学改革方向，并融入课程思政元素及严谨、创新的职业素质培养，力求实现校企融合、工学结合的紧密衔接。

教材以园艺植物种子生产产前、产中、产后这三个部分的内容为线索，共分为园艺植物新品种选育、园艺植物种子的生产原理、园艺植物种子生产基地的建设与管理、园艺植物种子生产、园艺植物种子检验、园艺植物种子加工贮藏与运输、园艺植物种子管理这七个模块。模块以若干个教学项目的方式展开，每个项目前有教学目标，每个项目后附有复习思考题以及拓展知识等内容。教材在内容编排和形式上均体现工学结合的特点，注重技能的培养和技术的实用性，适应多样化教学的需要。本教材适用于高职高专院校种子及园艺类相关专业，还可供全国种子生产技术和管理工作者学习参考。
