《海事英语阅读》是在“一带一路”新形势下根据国家海事人才发展规划编写的航海类英语教材。本教材依据《大学英语教学指南（2020版）》进行编写，旨在培养航海类学生的英语语言交际能力和综合语言运用能力。
《海事英语阅读》共十六个单元，供两个学期使用。每单元包括两部分：A课文的主题是海事文化。其中，Unit 1至Unit 6以古代“海上丝绸之路”为线索，介绍“海上丝绸之路”上的贸易、艺术、文化交流等，诠释“一带一路”倡议的内涵和影响；Unit 7至Unit 16的话题涉及与航海相关的人物、文化、历史、经济和管理等方面的内容。B课文的主题是水体，介绍与航运相关的海洋、河流、湖泊、海峡、三角洲等地理知识。
本教材的内容与时俱进，选材积极向上，凸显思想性和人文性，兼具通用性和专业性，注重可读性与时代性，对培养海事人才的英语交际能力、拓宽海事人才的国际视野具有重要意义。
