作为世界东方的文明古国，中国也是酒的故乡和酒文化的发源地。而白酒和黄酒都是中国独有的，是中华民族重要的非物质文化遗产，中华文化最鲜明的符号，但全球对白酒、黄酒的了解程度远不及威士忌、白兰地、伏特加和红酒。
本书以国酒（即白酒、黄酒）为题，用讲“故事”的表达形式，首次对中国白酒和黄酒进行了系统的归纳。在不长的篇幅内，以清晰、简明、通俗而严谨的语言，将中国白酒和黄酒的概念、特色、酿造的工艺、香型的区分与特点以及名酒的故事等进行了集中介绍，是社会大众和海外消费者了解中国酒、研究中国酒、品味中国酒的一部百科全书。。本书在倡导健康饮国酒的同时，大力推动白酒、黄酒的外文音译：即白酒英文为“Baijiu”，黄酒英文为“Huangjiu”，并在国外英文期刊发表文章时付诸实践。这在我国大力推进“一带一路”和中国文化“走出去”倡议的背景下，在传承中国酒的技艺和文化、让世界认识中国酒、了解中国酒、接受中国酒文化过程中具有积极的推动作用。
