本书主要对浙东学术中包含的主体要素逐章加以论述，以人物为线索，将朱学、心学、史学等研究的传承延续及成就一一叙述。与同类书籍比较，该书的鲜明特色在于以人物为线索串联浙东学术的各种要素。读者在阅读过程中，既可以了解浙东学术的代表人物及经历，又可以了解各个学术门类之间的互动与传承。

方同义，1952年生，诸暨市人。1982年毕业于浙江师范大学政史系，并留校任教。1984年中国人民大学哲学系硕士课程结业，1992年中国人民大学哲学系做高级访问学者。1994年任浙江师范大学副教授。1995年调入宁波大学。2000年任正教授，担任宁波大学马列部负责人，2004年起任宁波大学政治系主任。曾任马克思主义基本原理研究所长，硕士生导师，硕士点负责人、研究生督导等。系国际中国哲学学会、国际儒学联合会会员，浙江省儒学学会常务理事。2002年被宁波市人民政府授予宁波市高校首届名师称号。主要从事中国哲学和文化的教学和研究工作。迄今已出版学术著作八种，其中代表性著作有《合理性的询问》(中国广播电视出版社1999年6月版)、《中国智慧的精神》(人民出版社2003年10月版)、《中西文化比较纵横谈》(中国文史出版社2006年12月版)等；在《哲学研究》《学术月刊》《中国哲学史》《孔子研究》等学术刊物上发表论文100余篇。
