以朗读英语童谣的形式来培养、提高学生的语音、语调、语流水平，可以说是本书编者多年来教学实践中的一个创举。众所周知，英语的读音与拼写不尽一致。这是中国学生学习英语的一大难点。本书依照英语本身的规律以及中国儿童学习英语的规律编纂而成，其目的就是要扫除这一“拦路虎”。让孩子们在轻松愉快的氛围中潜移默化地掌握这些读音规则，为今后进一步的学习打下牢固的基础。
本书包含八十多首童谣，每一首都朗朗上口。并且配有标准英语录音示范。孩子们学习之后可以表演给他们的家长、同学以及朋友。其中三十多首童谣还有相应的歌曲，这更增添了他们的学习兴趣。每一首童谣都附有中文翻译，译文既表达了童谣原意，又有中文儿歌的韵味，这也是非常难能可贵的。这些内容也可为儿童英语教师提供丰富的教学参考资料。

方碧辉
新中国首位全国英语特级教师，毕业于北京外国语学院英语系。毕业之＼后志愿到北京景山学校参与英语教学改革实验近二十年。她先后在美国布兰迪斯(Brandeis University)等大学任教长达十余年。
她编写的教材《小学英语》(共四册)被当时的北京市教育局认定为正式教材使用。与此同时，在北京市电教馆录制了每周一次的示教录像近百讲。国家教育部还专门拍摄了她的《一堂小学英语课》作为英语教学示范片，为我国推广从小学开设英语课迈出了开创性的一步。
除此之外，方老师还编写了《幼儿英语》(三册)，出版后应邀在北京人民广播电台亲授，影响甚广；专著有《语言能力的培养》(童星家庭丛书)、《中小学英语教学改革探索》(北京教育丛书)，对我国中小学教育科研起到了积极的推动作用。
